I am a retired Professor of English with a love of photography—particularly wildlife and landscape photography. I grew up in Virginia, went to school in North Carolina and Nebraska, and taught at Northwest College in Powell for 35 years.

I first became interested in photography when I edited my college yearbook in the late 1960s, but photography did not become a serious hobby for me until the advent of computers, the internet, and digital cameras.

Digital cameras allowed me to make a vast number of mistakes without having to worry about the cost of film. Computers gave me the ability to crop and edit photos without a darkroom, while the internet gave me a place to post photos for family and friends spread across the country.

Most of my photos are centered on the land and wildlife of Northwest Wyoming, and I particularly enjoy the challenge of photographing birds. They can be hard to find, they rarely stay put, it is difficult to get close to them, and the light is often poor. I find it rewarding to capture a successful image.

I’ve been in love with photography every since my parents started subscribing to Life Magazine. My first camera was a Kodak Pocket 110 camera when I was in 6th grade. By the time I was a junior in high school, Jim Fuller and I were shooting with SLR cameras and processing film and making prints in Jim’s basement—we even sold some of our photos through our company “Quality Prints.” Back then, there was no web site, just business cards. Today, I have totaled over 50 film cameras, and all of them are functional and used. I also shoot with digital cameras including drone-based cameras.
