I am a retired Professor of English with a love of photography—particularly wildlife and landscape photography. I grew up in Virginia, went to school in North Carolina and Nebraska, and taught at Northwest College in Powell for 35 years.
I first became interested in photography when I edited my college yearbook in the late 1960s, but photography did not become a serious hobby for me until the advent of computers, the internet, and digital cameras.
Digital cameras allowed me to make a vast number of mistakes without having to worry about the cost of film. Computers gave me the ability to crop and edit photos without a darkroom, while the internet gave me a place to post photos for family and friends spread across the country.
Most of my photos are centered on the land and wildlife of Northwest Wyoming, and I particularly enjoy the challenge of photographing birds. They can be hard to find, they rarely stay put, it is difficult to get close to them, and the light is often poor. I find it rewarding to capture a successful image.
